After a long and frustrating string of notices of fantasy releases, finally, something for the vacuum eaters.
Assume this review is colored with some bitterness.
This product released coincidentally with a large company game, so assume that that also colors the discussion somewhat.
Firstly, all gray tones, which seems a negative, though it actually prints well on our high speed B/W laser at work, so saved on color toner. Does fill the page at that, though.
Ten images of flat area and five of the trench mean those who hate repetition of even simple patterns should be fine. Also, these are 4x5 two inch squares on each tile, so you could even randomize a bit more, watching out for structures that bridge the squares.
Not sure I understand the "Print any 5 of you(sic) favorite tiles twice to create a 40 inch by 40 inch play surface"; I gather they mean 10 sheets, which would not give a square unless you cut off some edges (not a big issue; is 40 x 40 that game I mentioned?). Do you have to mirror the patterns along the sides of the trench for it to fit an unspecified universe, ergo "Print...twice"?
Still, seems a bit simplistic, perhaps even a rush job. Wouldn't seem to be too much to ask for places for laser turrets, or an end cap for the trench with a target to 'stay on'.
Still, nice to see Ed get out of the dungeon for a bit, and I will be putting these to use.
