Hi RPGNow team,

We are pretty excited about your Star Base Trench-Run graphics.

We are building a Death Star model so that we can do our best to simulate a trench run (of course - ha-ha) - and we were trying to figure out how to make the surface look right. Saw another person posting on the Fantasy Flight Games website that they had printed your labels onto their flat boards to create the trench.

We're going to go a slightly different direction. Our plan is to build a 3-D trench with cardboard - and then using sticker paper put the graphics on the bottom and walls. (So, nothing flat). We're still working on sticking on all of the sticker paper - but so far so good :)

If you would like to see our idea, here is a link to our blog write-up on the idea:

An excellent idea, well produced. Best to print it in black and white. Ideal for X-Wing.

I've put together a 4'x4' board using this PDF and it's looking good! Check it out at DakkaDakka.com http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/479387.page#4821427

Great artwork. The tiling neatly ties together all of the various blocks in a way that's clever and convincing. Sadly, as presented the file is a bit hard to work with. You would need to print out individual pages and, I assume, tape them together to get a workable map. It would have been nice if it had been offered in a format that was more conducive to printing out larger maps in different formats. Luckily it doesn't require a lot of technical savvy to get around this issue. I'll soon have an awesome 4'x8' trench run for my Star Wars: X-Wing miniatures.

A good buy for $4. Simple, yet varied enough on large boards to avoid repetition of the greeble surface. Tiles connect seamlessly if you keep the shadows going in the same direction. While is looks a bit simplistic for what it is, this is to its benefit in my opinion. I too would like to see some laser turrets as a mini expansions for the play surface. I would also like to see some simple greeble structures to put into play as blocking obstacle terrain that serve no other purpose than board dressing.

After a long and frustrating string of notices of fantasy releases, finally, something for the vacuum eaters.

Assume this review is colored with some bitterness.

This product released coincidentally with a large company game, so assume that that also colors the discussion somewhat.

Firstly, all gray tones, which seems a negative, though it actually prints well on our high speed B/W laser at work, so saved on color toner. Does fill the page at that, though.

Ten images of flat area and five of the trench mean those who hate repetition of even simple patterns should be fine. Also, these are 4x5 two inch squares on each tile, so you could even randomize a bit more, watching out for structures that bridge the squares.

Not sure I understand the "Print any 5 of you(sic) favorite tiles twice to create a 40 inch by 40 inch play surface"; I gather they mean 10 sheets, which would not give a square unless you cut off some edges (not a big issue; is 40 x 40 that game I mentioned?). Do you have to mirror the patterns along the sides of the trench for it to fit an unspecified universe, ergo "Print...twice"?

Still, seems a bit simplistic, perhaps even a rush job. Wouldn't seem to be too much to ask for places for laser turrets, or an end cap for the trench with a target to 'stay on'.

Still, nice to see Ed get out of the dungeon for a bit, and I will be putting these to use.
