I have a load of 1:350 Battle of Britain aircraft I'd picked up ages ago and had been on the lookout for a good set of rules that would enable me to have squadrons of fighters engaging large bomber formations.... and this seems to do just the trick!

We have had several small games and just building up to some larger games. We are using 1 aircraft to represent a section on some small trefoil arms I 3D printed. It only becomes an issue when we then need single bases after they scatter but it works great!

(We had extrapolated our own Battle of Britain - and Pacific - stats for now until the official ones are added!)

Having just played Fire in the Sky for the first time we are really impressed by the way it makes grand tactical aerial combat gameable and fun. Dogfights are fast and furious with some engaging tactical nuances.The subsequent scatter results and spent sections at low altitude heading for home create plausible outcomes, rather than unlikely fights to the last plane. Differences between aircraft types are modelled by simple rules, which add flavour at this level of simulation. Players are always engaged as they decide when and where they should attempt to intercept their opponent's attacks. The campaign generator looks like it will create many subtly different scenarios before it becomes stale. I'm hoping my B17's do better in their 2nd mission.

Good scenario book with lots of background on the battles too. These scenarios are designed for Fireball Forward which is a great system. However, the scenarios also work just as well for other rulesets of the same scale with just a little bit of work. Whether you are playing Fireball Forward, Mein Panzer, Flames of War or some other WWII game where it's a company or two per side this is the way to go. Hopefully we'll see more of these scenario books in the future.
