English Archers 1415-ish Agincourt, 100yrs War etc.

LOOSE! and they did, over and over, a rain of arrows.  I remember reading somewhere a battalion of longbow men would be superior to a battalion of musketeers on a Napoleonic battle field. The bowman has longer range, a more accurate and quicker rate of fire. But a  proficient longbow man needs to be cultivated from childhood.  His physique evolved with increasingly powerful bows and maintained with regular practise until he no longer needs to aim - just point and hit - a sportsman.  But give a half starved redundant weaver confidence with a bright red jacket and regimental mythology, some days marching drill, and an industrially produced musket - flash b-b-b-b-ang!  Its all politics and economics and expediency.

The figures have black or white surrounds and there is a detailed 'earth' sheet for figure bases. The pdf sheets include the mirror reflections and fold lines to enable easy construction.

I've men-at-arms/foot knights penciled... and I've acted out crossbowmen in my garden which is always my first step... but no time scale set. Glad you like them!

That's GREAT! They will be glorious I'm sure! My good friend and gaming buddy, Bill has a large set of your Napoleonic troops that we have battled with using the Drums and Shako rules. It was a blast! If your medieval troops are half as good then this will be something to definitely pick up.

Michael, perhaps you could give me an opinion... and anyone else out there interested... I've pencilled a whole bunch of knights/M@Arms but want to have a little fun painting them up. Rather than using actual coats-of-arms I was 'fancying' contemporary brands to inform the colours and liveries of my fellows. Something to do with my wider fascination with corporate identity, teams etc. ... of course my archers are already historically 'nationalised' in red crosses.... hmmm.

That sounds too much like fun to me! You know how serious those wargamer types are. Just kidding! I think that could be a neat idea!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
