TABLE AIR COMBAT

Table Air Combat is a fast, simple air combat game that can be played on any flat surface.  All you need are some six-sided dice and some coins to provide weight for the aircraft counters.  Everything else can be printed from this ruleset.

Watch how to play here

Spitfire IIA player uses a flight of four aircraft represented by two counters.  Aircraft counters move by means of curved “performance rulers” that represent the aircraft’s historical cornering ability and maximum speed.

Each performance ruler is unique to each aircraft, and contains all the speed, cornering, and weapon information needed.

TAC is designed for portability;  The entire game can fit in a plastic bag.  Even the largest battles can take place on a fast-food restaurant table.

Fast and agile, the Spitfire was slightly superior to is arch rival Bf-109.  This early-war version has eight .303 machine guns and defended Great Britain from the Luftwaffe in 1940.

This set is a self-contained rulebook that includes miniatures for the Spitfire II and includes three scenarios that reference other aircraft:

Training:  A two-versus-two battle between Spitfires

First Contact:  Spitfires engage Bf-109E fighters over the Dunkirk evacuation beach

Scramble:  Bf-109E escort Ju-87 Stukas to British targets.  The RAF intercepts with Spitfires.

Idiotreihen: A squadron of Spitfires flying in "vic" formations gets bounced by Bf-109E

Black Thursday:  Formations of He-111 bombers and by Bf-110C escorts are intercepted by Spitfires over the North Sea

This ruleset contains only the Spitfire II.  Other aircraft references must be purchased separately.

Gosh, I thought this was supposed to be "Free"...not that *anything* ever *is* free, but still, even Americans have to figure slapping a price on a thing kinda bungs up the "free" part.

How about "Try a *discounted* Spitfire II"? That would have been less irritating; it's not as though US $2 is intolerable, after all.

Pretty simple, mate..."Free" means "without cost"; $2, while nominal, is a cost; ergo, NOT free.

It's a nifty little system, and its fun, but that doesn't make it OK to claim "free" when it isn't.

Maybe yours was "pay whatever you want", but mine was $2 for the supposedly free intro.

So that's my point--bait and switch is bait and switch, after all--to the Publisher: don't claim it's "Free to Try" when it isn't.

Are there any plans to adopt this game for WW-1?

And isn't it funny, the only two comments so far are from New Zealand - a land noted for it's flightless bird.

Tom B has a good idea - I'm a big fan of the 'Battle of Britain', and would go for a set covering the action of July 1940 - Oct 1940. But others might like a Mediterranean / Crete game. And no doubt there'll be some looking for Russian theatre air combat.
Let's support the designer and start buying. :-)

Any chance of getting a bundle made with all the aircraft or at least theaters, Battle of Brit, Pacific etc

Any plans to make more types of aircraft.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
