Modular Mansion 3:  The Asylum

Professor Quasso was a renowned medical practitioner and doctor of psychology who achieved world fame for his work with violently psychotic individuals and the criminally insane.  However, it wasn’t his ground breaking therapeutic techniques that most people remember him for, but rather, for his downfall.  After a series of family tragedies, the Professor became obsessed with the spirit influences on the mind, and began to use his patients as an experiment vessel for locating the soul, surgically.  Rumors quickly flew of his unorthodox and highly unethical surgical practices and his total disregard for his patient’s basic rights.  It wasn’t long before the British Medical Association revoked his status.

After his breakdown, the good professor moved across the pond hoping to start up a new practice.  He took his families fortune and build two sprawling complex’s in our small community.  The Professor built a large sprawling estate for his family.   The Asylum was home to nearly a hundred of the most deranged and violent from all over New England.  Almost immediately, the Professor began his search again.  Unlike the poor and destitute he was used to working with in England, these were hardened criminals, with an instinctual need to rebel and they  did not sit quietly while the professor treated them like lab rats.

The Asylum was build toward the end of the 19th century, and was established as a home for the criminally insane and those suffering from the most deliberating, and isolating forms of psychosis.  This asylum was the site of a gruesome patient revolt, and had been closed ever since.  Local teenagers from the local campus, attempting to gain favor with their fraternal organizations, or perhaps to win over a certain girl, have been known to break into the asylum and spend the night to prove their bravery.  Not all of them have come out the next morning completely intact, and some of them, not at all.

The asylum project consists of three differently shaped building exteriors, with four different interior design choices for each, and a number of different door and window placements.  Design your own interior arrangements for any and each of these three floor buildings.  Expand this build toward the sky by adding an optional basement level, and even deck out the attic level for up to five levels of urban spelunking madness.  Create as many Asylum buildings as you like, and arrangement anyway you desire.  Not happy, simply re-arrange the main buildings into a different layout for something new every time.  Doors, windows, and furnishings are provided to truly customize your build.. And if that is not enough, combine with our sister project the Modular Mansion 2: The Estate and the Modular Mansion.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
